Risk-Specific Fire Education Programs

Based on a history of fire fatality data, this section identifies high-risk segments of the state’s population and develops programs to address those needs. One of its primary functions is to initiate smoke alarm distribution and installation programs to encompass all economic levels in the state and equip high-risk segments of our population with standardized fire and life safety education. It accomplishes tasks by:

- Collaborating with local fire departments, community organizations, state agencies and other entities to target specific high-risk areas of our population.

- Creating a greater awareness as to the specific fire problem or behavioral patterns which attribute to South Carolina’s fire problem and address those issues through media. Develop and distribute standardized education materials focusing on risk-specific audiences, i.e. young, elderly, disabled, economically deprived, etc., as driven by fire fatality patterns.
